The OMNIS Final Meeting: The end of a Small-Scale Journey to Make Tourism Sustainable and Accessible

The OMNIS project has reached an important milestone, concluding with an inspiring final meeting dedicated to promoting accessible and sustainable tourism. Held under the theme "A small-scale journey to make tourism sustainable and accessible, from coast to hinterland, through territorial cooperation in Europe," the event brought together policymakers, tourism professionals, and community leaders to celebrate the project's achievements and explore its lasting impact.

Hosted in the picturesque town of Cagli on December 3rd, the meeting opened with heartfelt remarks from Mayor Alberto Alessandri and CNMU President Alessandro Piccini. They reflected on the project's origins and highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance tourism accessibility and inclusivity. Both emphasized the importance of territorial cooperation and creating a Destination Management Organization (DMO) to promote tourism at both local and regional levels.

Throughout the day, participants could engage with the actions that defined the OMNIS project. Presentations showcased key results, including insights into sustainable travel trends, innovative training materials, and the development of itineraries and packages. Feedback from exchange visits in Italy and Croatia was also shared. Additionally, the OMNIS brand, website, and community were introduced to the public, aiming to sustain local stakeholder engagement beyond the project's conclusion.

One of the day’s highlights was a round table discussion where experts and practitioners exchanged ideas and explored future opportunities for the OMNIS community. Moderated by Veronique Angeletti from Corriere Adriatico, the discussion featured a dynamic lineup of speakers representing diverse perspectives, from regional policymakers to technology innovators and accessibility advocates. A particular focus was placed on demonstrating to stakeholders that other categories of tourists with specific needs, such as those with celiac disease or individuals who are deaf and mute, are a growing market segment. These groups are increasingly calling for dedicated training to improve the hospitality they receive while travelling.

The final meeting was not merely a celebration of past achievements but a step forward in building the OMNIS community and laying the groundwork for future initiatives.
