As we commemorate the end of the World Blindness Awareness Month, it is crucial to spotlight initiatives dedicated to improving global accessibility and inclusivity for individuals with visual impairments. The "OMNIS" project, an acronym for "Co-creation of Inclusive Sustainable Tourism Itineraries and Packages from Coastal to Inner Areas," represents a remarkable cross-border driver of change, co-financed by the European Commission through the Interreg VI Italy-Croatia Programme.
OMNIS aspires to instigate a profound transformation in the practices of tourism operators in coastal and inner areas. This transformation will manifest through the dissemination of inclusive itineraries and packages. Additionally, innovative training sessions will be provided to equip tourism operators with the tools and knowledge to create inclusive itineraries and packages. Lastly, the creation of an online community of tourism operators will foster a balanced tourism flow that places inclusivity, sustainability, and the well-being of residents at the forefront of their operations. At its core, the ultimate objective of the OMNIS project is to significantly increase the number of tourists traveling with pets and individuals who are blind or visually impaired, thereby expanding the range of tourist experiences tailored explicitly to these needs.
OMNIS stands as a beacon, illustrating the profound impact of inclusive tourism in catalysing positive change. During World Blindness Awareness Month, serves as a reminder of the paramount importance of creating a world that is more accessible and accommodating, transcending all abilities and disabilities alike.
